ACTIVELY POSTING THE WRONG ANIMATIC.

Just. Because.
WELL ACTUALLY, it's not really wrong PERCY. (i know how to spell per se, percy.) The order of events are the same...shit isn't crazy or missing or jumbled. I just forgot to give Jael her spotlight of 10 seconds. She's the unloved middle child everyone forgets about. HAHAHAHA. These things happen when you spend three days stumbling around after effects and getting nowhere. So really, it should be 2:14...thats what the real one is. THIS ONE also happens to be the one Mr. Soundman decided to work on and is super small sized which is just THUPER.

Yah. The screen will be cut up with moving panels at tiiiimes, exactly as is shown in this here visual aid. I was also thinking about having it open as a still of lots of comic book panels and then zoom in on the establishing shot of the airport, just to tie the whole 'comic book stylee,' into the whole thing a bit more. I've been thinking about stuff. Imma be splicing still images with animation, for example, the zombies don't move fluidly like the four bitches, they just kind of slide around, and will probably be animated on key frames alone, (in the fight scene, like when he falls) just to get that jittery feel.

And each of them will have their own 'theme,' music. I'm still deciding on what noise the zombies should make though. HRM.

The Almighty BRAIN DAMAGE Playlist

This is really for the benefit of mah sound mahn, Russell Bennett who has been expecting a playlist for like six years now but my search of music is never ending D: Here's what I have so far.

1. Blue Stahli - Shotgun Senorita ;;
What? Swifty has a good ear for NOISES that can work with IMAGES. Ah like how it's a slowish build and then BAMBAMBAM.
2. Does It Offend You, Yeah? - Attack of the 60ft Lesbian Octopus
This has always been my number one BRAIN DAMAGE song. Its got an old school monster movie feel to it, like the blob or something. It's cheesy, it's strange, it's BRAIN DAMAGE.
3. The Dead Weather - 3 Birds
It's got a bit of...mystery to it? Like the...ding...ding bits...that sound like sneaking? Or something? And the weird noises that COULD totally be zombie screams etc. I think it builds niiiicely.
4. Nero - Fugue State
Because I'm totally not opposed to BRAIN DAMAGE having such dubsteppy beatz. I do like this, I think it has a wierd carnival kind of sound to it...but can totally imagine Frankie beating the shit out of a zombie to the rest of it.

5. Yeah Yeah Yeahs - Rockers To Swallow (JAEL)
The YYYs are babes and me love them longtime. Russell asked me whether I had certain songs in mind for each character, because I want each of them to have their own unique sound when they have their special intro part in the animation. This is Jael, because it gives you a second before it gets crazy and it's just cool like she is.

6. David Guetta - The Alphabeat
...The piano!? It's all nice and peaceful...and then...shit goes down. Kind of like BRAIN DAMAGE? It's got potential.

7. Blue Stahli - Premeditated
Tell me you can't hear how this could work with a zombie apocalypse.

8.  Brand New - Welcome To Bangkok
Sheer brilliance, it's really that simple. Especially when it gets into it, sounds frantic and frenzied and like something bad is going DOWN. Perfect for BRAIN DAMAGE.
9. Blue Stahli - Accelerant
Well, after I found the first two...I started looking at more Blue Stahli and mang, some good BRAIN DAMAGEY stuff. This one has a Resident Evil sound to it, methinks.
10. Brand New - Be Gone
Brand New are amazing, and this is just a weird song. I remember playing Red Dead Redemption to it and it made me feel super cool, even though I have no idea what they're saying. It's got a west sound to it, but I can still see BRAIN DAMAGE in it.

11. Chemical Brothers - Hanna OST 'container park.'
The whole OST is pretty boss, but ah like this one most. It's a bit creepy.

12. Chiodos - Those Who Slay Together Stay Together
S'all in the lyrics, really. Just meant as a source of INSPIRATION, I don't want any singing in mah thiiiing.
13. Brian Lebarton - Desert Slaying (WET soundtrack)
Good stuff for when times are slow in the zombie apocalypse.

14.  Knock Galley West - Undead West (WET soundtrack)
They even mention zombie killers of the wild wild west! Good shit for when things are getting frenzied.

15.  Skunk Anansie - Tear The Place Up
The anthem of BRAIN DAMAGE.

16. Skunk Anansie - Charlie Big Potato
POTATOES!
17.  These New Puritans - Three Thousand
 One wurd; foreboding.
18. Infected Mushroom - Heavyweight
It's long, longer than the animation...but it's a journey!
19. Marilyn Manson - Siezure of Power
 I couldn't resist...
20. Crystal Castles - Doe Deer (FRANKIE)
Diz gewd song. Deez bitches crazy. It's noisy, crazy, frantic and very, very Frankie and the only lyrics are, DEATHRAY x25million. Winner.

21. The Gorillaz - Left Hand Suzuki Method (SEVEN)
It's prancy, airy, strange...in a world of its own. Much like Seven appears to be throughout the animation.
22. Sleigh Bells - Straight A's (NOVA)
I've had Sleigh Bells for like...2 years now and this song has been my favourite since then. It'll be the song used at my funeral and I think it's very Nova. Nova is nearly as crazy as Frankie, but not quite, and I went for Straight A's as her song instead of Doe Deer, because Straight A's KIND OF eases you into the madness. Doe Deer just attacks you.
23. The Jezabels - Prisoner
 Sounds like...a funeral?
24. The Jezabels - Nobody Nowhere
It's all weird sounding, and I like the bell at the beginning.
25. The Do - In My Box
Does not exist on youtube, apparently, but it's fuckin' good. You can download it at btjunkie...just search The Do A Mouthful or something similar. S'where i got it.
26. Delphic - Clarion Call
N'yes.
27. The Naked and The Famous - Frayed
Because, when it kicks in...MAH GAW.
28. Sarah Jaffe - Pretender
It's slow, but scary sounding.
29. Wolfmother - Colossal

ONGOING. Again, many of you can ignore this, it's here to help Russell get an idea of what kind of sounds ah would liiiiike.

Colour!

So I drew a bunch of movement sheets a while ago and finally got round to colouring them in to give fecks a suggestion of the kind of colour palette Brain Damage will be flaunting. I'm thinking simple flat colours, and then I'll FIDDLE DIDDLE with settings in photoshop to make it look coo'. I'm also intending on putting a niiiice texture over the whole thing. I made a .gif using such texture to see how it'll pan out and ch'yeah, shit looks good.

Seven ;; The Red Power Ranger.                                     Jael ;; The Green Power Ranger.

Frankie ;; Was there an orange one?                             Nova ;; The bitch with the chainsaw.

So that's them. What a good looking bunch.

Mmm. Yeah. Nice ARC.

Mmmm yeah. Swish swish swish. I actually had fun doing this, but that might only be because it only took one attempt and that I've FINALLY figured out how exactly layouts work. ANYWAY. This is my final animation.

Fer sure. If you don't get it, look harder, stare longer, did you see the gorilla walk by? Replay.

....>=D

This is the start of scene 13, which leads onto maybe the biggest action sequence of the film, including the shadow zombie fight (mostly done, I'll have you know) and then the fire spitting (completely not done, I'll have you know), once those FIVE MILLION BILLION KAJILLION PENCES are done it's all easy breezy from then on. Well...as easy breezy as 2D animation can possibly be so; not at all.

I do so enjoy up hill struggles.

TUNE IN LATER FOR NOTHING OF IMPORTANCE.

~ obviously Lauren.

P.S. I just noticed I haven't put the animatic up and...well...just tough titties, it's 4GB and I have neither the patience nor the will nor the jiggery-pokery EXP to do anything about that.

Tuesday 7 June 2011

You can animate in photoshop!? I didn't know that. Well I did, it was somewhere at the back of my mind, but I decided it was probably as complicated as cloning humans safely, so obviously, I dodged it repeatedly. I can animate stuff! But I won't do it the supposed easy way. I'll be drawing frames and scanning them in and checking them on Photoshop. I have a tablet, n'yesss, but I always prefer drawing on paper. Not even a computer can do the heavy black lines like I CAN >=D Really.

But that's me blabbering. I got a 15 field light box the other day, so once I've got that set up I'll start doing some roughs and get back to you. Hoping to get most, if not all, the key frames for the scenes done over the summer [I WISH]. Then I can recruit people to help! You'll help won't you? Yes? Yes you? You should, I'm calling my 'helpers,' the HORDE! You probably saw that a mile off, but that's cool, shows we think alike, means you should help me. Help.

For now, I'm just going to put up all my other stuff. Just to show it's there, as opposed to just keeping it to myself.

ANNNND three posters I threw together for d-con. Not like anyone GAVE A SHIT..."there appears to be no recognizable anime types at this table, let us move on quickly whilst avoiding all eye contact with the artist." Not that I'm bitter or anything...8D

Yeah, I didn't do one for Nova, didn't have the time. But I had a cheesy tag line in mind. She was going to be standing on the edge of the roof, with her chainsaw in the air and drawn from a low angle to make it look like you're looking up at her and it said; Stairway to CHAINSAW.

I could write poetry.

MOAR BOOMSTICK STICKY STICK

Drew these up for the props since I've added a part into the script with them in shot. They be .44 Smith & Wesson Magnums (a.k.a 'Dirty Harry's gun.') I didn't want a sleek looking handgun, I wanted one with a chamber. Because I wanted to draw a chamber and so I can add in 'spinningbrrrnoise,' sound effects when it gets used 8D

Those are my specifications when considering a boomstick.

Yeah, I know I haven't done the chainsaw yet and that's because I don't look forward to drawing all those itty bitty millionbillion teeth. It'll get done.

DEAD BIBLE

KEH. So since Imma have to reprint some pages of my bible in prep for the SUPERALMIGHTYRAPTUREBIBLE, I decided to put up those that suffered due to my need to squash lots of stuff onto one A4 page. Those without hawk like vision such as myself (seven years of glasses YEAH >=D) probably won't be able to read my tidbits in the bible, but you can read them pretty clearly from the original .png files. Not that you need to read any of it but I found it amusing. I often amuse myself though, so that's nothing new. ALSO ALSO. Thar be colourful language beyond. Thought it would be fine since it's a film about zombies and I'd consider that a special occassion, one in which every second word probably would be 'fuck,' or 'shit.' As in 'fuck the fucking fuckshit zombs are here!' It's big and very clever. Not really, but it IS human nature so just deeeeeeal.

TASTY BITS.

This has me excited, because I'm sick like that. Adding it to the 'research,' pile, fo'sho.

It's a bit more serious than how I want BRAIN DAMAGE to be, but good shiet all the same.

CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT; Jael.

Jael's had a couple of career changes. Well, not really, first she didn't really have a 'career,' then I decided to make her a soldier personaaaage, because I wanted someone who could actually use a gun, and being the solider she kind of takes up the spot of the leader since the others would naturally look to her for the answers. Especially when it comes to where they're going or what they should be doing. As a soldier, it's not much of a stretch for viewers to assume that she arranged an evacuation rendezvous or something, and that's what I'll say when asked 'but where did the helicopter come from?'

Again, I couldn't be bothered arranging things nicely.

CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT; Nova

Just a note. I tried to rearrange these but it didn't take me long to figure out that blogger is best at doing the opposite of what I'm trying to do, so I stopped trying.

Here be Nova, she's the youngest of the four and the shortest. But that doesn't matter because she's got a chainsaw. Maybe a little below Frankie in terms of mentalness, she just gets a bit carried away with her chainsaw and the impending doom she's faced with does little to help when it comes to keeping your cool.

EH. I'll blab more in my production bible, but for now her basics were always; blonde/midget/androgynous-ish/eyes/nose/mouth/pull it together/somethingsomething/done.
